Shadow Bird, the latest film by groundbreaking director Savita Singh has qualified for 2022 Academy Awards and is in consideration for nomination in the ‘Best Short Film’ category.
This builds on the National Award the film received in India for Best Cinematography (Non-Feature Film), the highest recognition for cinema in India. ‘Shadow Bird’ qualified for the Oscars by virtue of winning the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival, the only Oscar-qualifying film festival in India. It also won ‘Best Short Film’ at the Lady Filmmakers Festival in Beverly Hills, CA.
ABOUT DIRECTOR SAVITA SINGH:
A 2007 Cinematography graduate from the Film and Television Institute of India, Savita Singh has worked with varying visual styles and formats.
Her graduation film, ‘Kramasha -To be continued’ (2007) received a National Award for Best Cinematography (2009) in the Non-feature category. Singh was selected as a scholar for the Budapest Cinematography Master Class and was also declared the Indian Winner (2007) for the Kodak Film School Competition. Her work has garnered applause from the likes of Jonathan Rosenbaum, a revered film critic.
Singh has shot feature films of diverse genres. Along the way, she also delved into shorts, documentaries, and advertisements. She is one of the founding members of the Indian Women Cinematographers Collective (IWCC), a forum for women cinematographers based in India.
Shadow Bird / Sonsi is her first film as a Director. She won her 2nd National Award for Best Cinematography (Non-feature category) for the film.
ABOUT PRODUCERS SHARIB KHAN & VIKAR KUMAR:
Sharib Khan and Vikar Kumar are the co-founders of KHAN & KUMAR Media Pvt Ltd - A collaboration between childhood friends who share a passion for stories that show the extraordinary in the ordinary. Shadow Bird/ Sonsi is their debut production.
VIKAS KUMAR is an Indian actor (Hamid, Parmanu). His most recent work is a lead part in the 2021 International Emmy Awards Nominee for Best Drama Series, ‘AARYA’.
SHARIB KHAN is a tech-entrepreneur based in New York who has a passion for indie films and can often be seen doing headstands as a yoga practitioner.
ABOUT THE CAST AND CREW OF SHADOW BIRD / SONSI:
JAMEEL KHAN (as THE TIME-KEEPER) - is an actor known for ‘Loins Of Punjab Presents’, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram Leela’ and Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’. In Sonsi, he plays the eccentric village Time-Keeper, ‘Ghadi Babu’, for which he won the best Actor award at the Lady Film Makers Festival.
AROHI RADHAKRISHNAN (as NADI) -
Aarohi Radhakrishnan stepped into the world of movies with TV commercials and digital ads. Radhakrishnan has been acting in films and found recognition with Tumbbad, which has been lauded as the most intriguing horror film of Indian Cinema.
MUSIC COMPOSER - TAJDAR JUNAID
A multi-instrumentalist and film composer, Tajdar has scored music for acclaimed projects like Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s ‘The President’, ‘Hotel Salvation’, ‘Amoli’ and ‘Writing With Fire’.
EDITOR - HEMANTI SARKAR
She is one of the leading editors of the Indian Film Industry. She is one of the first few women to hold the editor's seat and has been a pioneering face of the New Age Cinema. She has the most lauded popular films in her name and has been the editor on films like Dear Zindagi, Stree, Bala, Secret Superstar, Airlift etc.
SOUND DESIGNER - AJIT SINGH RATHORE
He has been working in the film industry for a very long time now. He has been the sound designer for celebrated bollywood films such as ‘Hassee toh Phasee’, ‘Jo Dooba so Par’, ‘Chandni chowk to China’, ‘Eklavya’ to name a few. He also has a National Award in his name for Best Sound Design for the film "Kramasha'' given to him by hon'ble. President of India Pratibha Patil in the year 2009.
He has also composed music for Fear Factor and designed sounds for many Tv shows. He also wore the producer's hat for the films ‘Laila Aur Saat Geet’, ‘Maru RO Moti’, ‘Sonchidi’.
DI COLORIST- AASHIRWAD HADKAR
Ashirwad Hadkar has banked on the most popular films from India. He is responsible for creating a look for the most enchanting films such as ‘Dangal’, ‘Baby’, ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Gunjan Saxena', 'Padmaawat' to name a few.
