Jen Kirkman's Newest Comedy Album in YEARS, "OK, GEN-X" Out Now

“Though delivered in an effortless conversational style, her comedy has the meticulous detail that can come only from repetition and experience.” - New York Times

New York, NY (Mar 17, 2022) - Jen Kirkman’s upcoming comedy album, OK, Gen-X is out Friday, March 25 on 800 Pound Gorilla Records, available everywhere comedy is streamed and sold. OK, Gen-X is an ode to the forgotten and most misunderstood generation; a stroll down the memory lane of everyday sexism from when it was okay for teachers to say “Boys Will Be Boys” and to today where it’s still okay for men to try to show you their dicks in public. After 2 wildly successful and critically acclaimed Netflix specials, and in fact the first special they produced by any female comedian over the age of 40, Kirkman had heard a few times from studio execs that ‘men in America would not laugh at her jokes’ so she went on and wrote a comedy album instead. Speaking about the motivations behind the album, Jen Kirkman said:

“Boomers think we’re slackers and Gen-Z thinks we’re Boomers. OK, Gen-X is an ode to the generation who grew up with indoor cigarette-smoking and only using a camera twice a year (“if you had a camera in the 90s, you were a photographer”). It’s a darkly funny remembrance of being a little girl who experienced sexism beginning at age four with the town flasher. Throughout my life men have continued to try to show me their dicks at inappropriate times, and society still thinks that’s not a big deal.”

Recorded at Union Hall in December of 2021, right before the Omi hit, over the course of a few nights in the renowned Brooklyn basement venue, the album offers a few useful tools to better understand the patriarchy including the game “Would a Man Say this To Another Man In An Elevator?” Kirkman sits on a stool and does comedy without having anything to apologize for, talks about her not-serious-Catholic upbringing and why she’s jealous of Greta Thunberg, and sets the record straight on Generation X, the generation that actually prefers everyone ignore them anyway.
