Blonde Medicine and Ben Katzner are pleased to announce the release of Ben’s debut comedy special and album, both titled Supple Harlot. The special is available TODAY (August 11), and the album will be available everywhere digitally on Friday, September 12. Digital pre-orders start today as well.
Ben uses biting observational humor and skilled story-telling to discuss everything from his own adoption to reading romance novels in a desperate attempt to connect with and understand the world around him. This project is a culmination of years of Ben’s hard work, successes, failures and everything in between. It’s about how he views the world and where he sees a place for himself in it…or at least that’s one way to look at it. Another way comes from fellow comedian James Stanley, who summarizes the themes of Supple Harlot in three words: “Fat. Black. Adopted” which, according to Ben…honestly nails it.
While he was born in Atlanta, Ben, who currently lives in Minneapolis with his wife Ali, has called Minnesota home long enough to know “handshakes are for lovers and hugs are for funerals”. As an adoptee Ben spent a lot of his life feeling like an outsider:
“First and foremost, I want people to laugh. After that, I want these jokes to be a bridge, a way of welcoming people into my world. I’d love for listeners to gain some understanding about who I am and why I am the way I am OR, even better, I’d love this project to be a kind of ‘bat signal’ for all my fellow outsiders out there. I’d love for people who feel like no one else could possibly understand their experience to hear my jokes and feel a little less alone!”
Through comedy, Ben has found a strong community and is truly touched by all the people who have supported him along the way. Bringing Ben’s Supple Harlot to life wouldn’t be possible without them.
