Originally an interview series on the New York magazine partner Bedford + Bowery, Meet the Regulars (Skyhorse Publishing) and its author and creator, Joshua D. Fischer has just been invited to take part in the Brooklyn Book Festival. After months of the book garnering attention and acclaim in the press from AM New York, Citylab from The Atlantic, National Public Radio (WBGO), and more, Fischer is excited to take his seat at one of NYC's most exciting book festivals.

Meet the Regulars debuted on Amazon as the #1 New Release in the categories of NY State Travel Guides and Mid Atlantic U.S. Biographies. The artfully designed book captures an entertaining and previously unseen portrait of the people of Brooklyn and the places they love. In talking with the regulars at bars, restaurants, and shops in the world-famous borough, author Joshua D. Fischer delivers deep and delightful stories presented alongside stunning snapshots from accomplished photographers.

Meet the Regulars introduces us to a diverse and changing Brooklyn through the people who know it best: the blogger who fixes her hair and heart at her cherished salon; the lady so loyal to her local bar she has its logo tattooed on her arm; and the burgeoning filmmaker who walks twenty blocks for sage advice from a legendary bartender at a bowling alley bar.

Familiar faces include party rocker Andrew W. K. spicing things up at a Thai joint from his early days, Saturday Night Live performer Sasheer Zamata reliving a breakup at her go-to brunch spot, Radiolab host Jad Abumrad sippin’ whiskey to Black Sabbath, beloved NY1 news anchor Pat Kiernan chowing down on meatballs, actor Jessica Pimentel (Orange Is the New Black) championing her local metal venue, and actor Kevin Corrigan (Goodfellas, Pineapple Express) contemplating a Guinness at his secluded spot inside an Irish pub.

How Meet the Regulars Came to Be:

When Joshua D. Fischer originally pitched the idea of an interview series with regulars at bars, restaurants, and shops in Williamsburg, Bushwick, and his own neighborhood, Greenpoint, to New York magazine partner Bedford + Bowery, he had been living in the same Brooklyn apartment for a decade. He saw so much rapid change, so much gentrification, so many places close and new ones open, that he wondered what happened to the people he used to see at his neighborhood haunts—and what of the new people and places that replaced them? He watched as once Brooklyn-local friends were priced out, moved on, married, built careers, or started lives elsewhere. After publishing more than two dozen interviews with everyday people and famous faces, a book took form, in which he included his own reflections on the people, places, and changing borough in brief, punchy essays. Meet the Regulars presents powerful portraits of people and entertaining reflections on a life in what many regard as the coolest city in the world—one that’s full of hipsters, artists, gentrifiers, and regular people who are intimately connected to their favorite places in their hometown.
