NEW YORK, NY - After completing 25+ shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, Douglas Widick’s Paperclip received great response, with Fest Magazine calling it “a very humorous show with a very likeable and talented performer.” Now with a live backing band, Paperclip is bringing three final performances to the iconic SoHo Playhouse in NYC.

The writer and star of the musical, Douglas Widick, cites his appearance on a 1999 episode of The Rosie O’Donnell Show (where he beat Rosie at Harry Potter trivia) as the start of his entertainment career. In the following years he played in pop-punk outfit Easton which played in the 2006 Warped Tour alongside such acts as Mayday Parade, attended improv classes at UCB, and toured internationally with hip-hop improv ensemble North Coast.

In Paperclip, Microsoft Word’s writing assistant, Clippy, has seen the future—and it is bleak. Determined to prevent the impending techno-dystopia brought about by artificial intelligence, Clippy travels back in time to warn humanity in a thrilling, time-traveling adventure through the internet. In Douglas’s words, “the show is about choice, self-sabotage, and how we engage with a rapidly changing world. Clippy’s journey to stop AI is couched in a story about him redeeming his reputation as the world’s least beloved digital icon.”

Douglas Widick is a founding member of hip-hop improv group, North Coast, which was named one of Timeout NY’s Top 10 Comedy Shows of 2014 and tours internationally. ABOUT SARAH SMALLWOOD PARSONS (THEY/SHE/HE):
Director Sarah Smallwood Parsons is a queer, non-binary creative living in Brooklyn who is primarily known for their character monologues, including The Song In Every Musical That No One Likes, and for hosting the show Characters Welcome at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. They are currently also directing the solo show Gaga: Portrait Of A Lady and the UCB Betty Team HeyDay. 

ABOUT KATIE-JAMES RUSHIN (HE/SHE):
Katie-James Rushin is a composer, producer, music director and multi-instrumentalist living in Queens. James has performed with some of Broadway’s greatest, serving as co-conductor and keys for the Broadway run and national tour of Freestyle Love Supreme. Lately, KJ is back on Broadway and on the bandstand with Mamma Mia! at the Winter Garden and serving as music director for Jenna DeVries (@devriesmusic), Madison Rose (@madisonrose), and the last 3 years of the 17-year-long Broadway Sessions with Ben Cameron at Green Room 42. He was the musical director for North Coast and Anybody: An Improvised Hip-Hopera with Douglas Widick. She’s also a Dungeon Master and ice cream connoisseur.
