WINNER - SoHo Playhouse NYC International Fringe Comedy Encore Series 2024

Fresh from its Off-Broadway run at SoHo Playhouse:

JON SCHNITZER

JUST THE TIP

Family, Religion, Israel, Palestine, Circumcision

and that's...JUST THE TIP!

Comedian Jon Schnitzer is bringing his award-winning solo comedy show JUST THE TIP to The Vault at the Elysian in Los Angeles for one night only on May 15, 2025, and NYC's SoHo Playhouse from June 19-21 and June 26-28. The show was featured in SoHo Playhouse NYC’s International Fringe Comedy Encore Series last November, their annual roundup of the best comedy acts from around the world!

Schnitzer went from being the biggest little zealot at Jewish private school to questioning everything, and audiences will too, through his hilarious and heartwarming stories about family, religion, Israel, Palestine, circumcision, and that's...JUST THE TIP! The newly revamped show now features theme music by Alexander Burke and Art Santora, and now dives deeper into his experiences visiting both Israel and Palestine, delivering laughs as hard-hitting as the topics are controversial. Audiences say JUST THE TIP is ”an intensely personal spiritual journey while making you laugh your ass off”  and, “It might also make you cry, but in a good way.”

A latecomer to comedy, the Orange County native explains: “I’ve always been funny, I just wasn’t sure if I was ‘2 drink minimum’ funny. During covid lockdown I put on comedy shows for my wife in the living room and we had so much fun that I finally decided to give stand-up a try.”

Schnitzer didn’t just ‘try’ stand-up, he dove in head-first and cut his teeth fast - hitting open mics by day and getting on shows at night, delighting audiences at The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, The Elysian, Lyric Hyperion, and Gotham NYC and on bills with the likes of Nikki Glaser, Marc Maron, Hannah Einbinder, and Laurie Kilmartin. Jon capped off his second year of stand-up by winning the SoHo Playhouse International Fringe Comedy Encore Series, which helped launch the careers of Hannah Gadsby and Alex Edelmann.

JUST THE TIP was created from a love of storytelling that is emotional, fearless and deeply personal. Growing up amongst neo-nazis and right-wing Christians, and facing antisemitism, Schnitzer learned how to fight back with humor at a young age,”The bullies left me alone once they realized I could make the entire school laugh at them. But empathy is at the heart of my comedy - after a ‘war on empathy’ was declared by Trump and Elon, I got inspired to make JUST THE TIP even more personal.”

Most shows have both Palestinians and Israelis attending and laughing together, and when possible Schnitzer starts shows with a “conflict free pizza party” so audience members can meet each other, “The coolest thing about doing my show so many times is seeing people come back and bring their parents and watching them laugh and even cry together. It’s really incredible.”

While creating JUST THE TIP, Schnitzer used colored cards for different topics: blue for Jewish stories, pink for circumcision jokes, and he had a LOT of hot pink cards. At an early performance, another comic remarked that if he keeps telling circumcision jokes Jon would be known as ‘the comedian who tells circumcision jokes’. Schnitzer replied “I’ll be known as a comedian?! Awesome!”
