Blonde Medicine and Jono Zalay are pleased to announce the release of Jono’s third comedy album, entitled Beat Life to Death. The album will be available everywhere digitally on Friday, November 7. Digital pre-orders start Friday, October 17.

 

On Beat Life to Death, Zalay serves up his trademark watertight writing with an understated delivery that will be familiar to fans of his previous albums Midnight Oil and Snake Oil, while building upon them and raising the bar. Understandable, given that the stakes were extremely high for this particular album. Beat Life to Death was recorded several days before his dad went into quintuple bypass surgery, and Jono closed his set with ten minutes of tales about him. Sadly Jono’s father passed away several months later from complications following the surgery, but Jono was able to play him the completed recording, and they laughed together in the hospital room.

 

On Beat Life to Death, Jono jokes about reaching midlife and its physical limitations, the misadventures of getting married: “the cops broke up my wedding(!!!)”, the side effects of homeschooling, a complete indignance with the political landscape, and his dad’s antics as an ungovernable curmudgeon.

 

Jono wants to make it clear: “It is fine and good to joke about tough subjects like toxic politics, aging, death and genocide”...that’s part of how you Beat Life to Death!

ABOUT JONO ZALAY:

 

Dr. Jono Zalay, Ph.D. began his standup career in Boston, while simultaneously earning his Doctorate in Neuroscience (he gave cocaine to rats). Since dropping his science hobby to pursue comedy full-time, Jono has done standup for The Late Late Show on CBS, Netflix is a Joke, LMAOF on OFTV, been named one of Comedy Central’s ‘Comics to Watch.’ He’s also guest-hosted on E!, and earned international press for his pranks on the DMV. Jono now lives in Los Angeles where he performs and writes for TV, with his work airing on ABC, Hulu, Peacock, CNN & Prime Video.
