Blonde Medicine and Kenny DeForest are pleased to announce the release of Don’t You Know Who I Am?, the new Comedy Special and album out now on Kenny’s YouTube channel, and everywhere comedy albums are streamed.

Hailing from Springfield, MO (a.k.a. “the Ozarks”), DeForest currently lives in Brooklyn. As a child he secretly wanted to be a comic. Some of Kenny’s earliest memories are of seeking laughs - always the kid chosen for public speaking, emceeing assemblies in high school, etc. It was when he was caught writing jokes down in a notebook that Kenny’s friends basically forced him to try his hand at an open mic. “After that, they would book me to do sets at parties etc. Honestly, very cool of them to do that”, says Kenny.

High-school assemblies, open mics and parties gave way to appearances on Comedy Central, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Late Show with James Corden, HBO’s “Crashing”, TruTV’s “Friends of the People”, the coveted "Best of the New Faces" list at Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, Brooklyn Magazine’s "50 Funniest People in Brooklyn" list, and even the #1 spot on iTunes for Kenny’s debut comedy album B.A.D. Dreams.

Don't You Know Who I Am? concerns itself with the story of another childhood passion of DeForest’s - playing competitive high school basketball, and more specifically with “the drop-off” that occurred after his dream of playing in the NBA did not come to pass. DeForest, like so many others, always saw himself as a sports star in his youth. Looking back as an older, maybe wiser man, DeForest says “…to be clear I was never very good. I was delusional…my NBA dreams lasted way longer than they should have”.

In the wake of his hoop dreams, DeForest lived life,  enjoying “out of control levels of wild” involving drinking and drugs: “I couldn’t win basketball games anymore, so I started trying to win parties”. With age and more maturity, DeForest has acquired an evolved perspective on the values of therapy. He hopes the material can shed light on what it is like to go from daily sports-induced dopamine hits to finding joy along other paths.

ABOUT KENNY DEFOREST:

Kenny DeForest is a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor best known for his appearances on Comedy Central, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Late Show with James Corden, HBO’s “Crashing”, & TruTV’s “Friends of the People.”

In 2015 he was named one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch. 2017. In 2016, he was included in the "50 Funniest People in Brooklyn" by Brooklyn Magazine. In 2017 he recorded his debut stand-up album "B.A.D. Dreams" which debuted #1 on iTunes, and in 2018 he was invited to perform at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal as a “New Face” where he was named "Best of the New Faces" by The Village Voice.

With a wry grin and a gentle heart, DeForest guides the audience on a hilarious journey of relatable self-discovery by sharing his ever-evolving jaded-yet-optimistic POV on what it means to be a bag of meat in a skin suit on this planet at this moment, using stories, observations, personal anecdotes, and social commentary, including the occasional rant. But he rarely comes off as divisive because his core belief is that no matter how much we disagree, when we stop taking ourselves too seriously to laugh at ourselves, and we put our phones down, we are just a bunch of people doing the best we can with the tools we have and we all have way more in common than the billionaires manipulating us to hate each other so they can go to space with the money they extracted by profiting from our fear. Or something like that.
